ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION


The Waikato Institute for Leisure and Sport Studies Trust Board (WILSS), now trading as Waikato Institute for Leadership & Sport Studies, was established in 1989 through the vision of John Parker, Lyn Gunson and Wilf Malcom.  We have a mission to “Build and empower our communities through quality education in leadership and volunteering” within schools, sports clubs, community groups, volunteer organisations and workplaces.  Our work predominantly focuses on the development of effective leaders and volunteers who are contributing to their communities through their paid or volunteer roles.  In 2019, WILSS is delivering programmes to over 8,500 participants. We are an accredited New Zealand Qualifications Authority provider and accordingly our strategic plan, policies, procedures, business plan and reporting criteria are well established.  WILSS is also a registered Charitable Trust.  The Board, which meets quarterly, consists of representatives from The University of Waikato, Sport Waikato, schools, community, sport, Iwi, and professional services. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are seeking three Board members.  One position is for a person who has a background in professional services (financial, legal, accounting, business development, funding). The second will have involvement in community development.  The third will be our Iwi representative, so a strong connection to Māori in the Waikato and understanding of issues and opportunities for Māori in our communities, sports, workplaces and schools is essential. If you are interested in contributing towards a small but vibrant organisation that has a long history of providing quality education in the community sector within the Waikato region and across New Zealand, this might be the opportunity you are looking for.

IDEAL APPLICANT DESCRIPTION
We are looking to appoint three people who have the skills and experience that will add value to the Board table and maximise its overall governance capability.  This person would ideally have governance experience and understand the challenges and issues that face organisations operating within the not-for-profit and education sector.

Wanted..... people with passion and knowledge

Are you a great coach or sport administrator and interested in sharing your knowledge with others still learning the trade?

WILSS is looking for energetic, motivating 'teachers of the trade'. If you have a teaching or facilitation background, even better!

We deliver part-time NZQA modules to Waikato coaches and administrators - we are looking to extend our great team of programme facilitators and are interested in hearing from you.

We are also looking for teachers who would be able to work during the week days on our school's programme. We are seeking teachers with NZ teaching qualifications who have an understanding of leadership, volunteering and are keen to make a difference with young people.
